From: George.stein@moulin.com

Subject: Employment Contract

Dear Ms. Station,

I am writing in response to your e-mail of July 18. I want to start by saying that I am disappointed to hear that you do not wish to take the position that you have been hired for in our main office. However, though you have not begun to work here yet, you did sign a contract with us for a minimum of two years. The company considers this contract to be active. Thus, I have to inform you that if you do not report to work by August 1, you will be responsible for breaking the contract and the related fees. If you disagree with this decision, the rules for how you can proceed are in the contract. If you need an additional copy, please contact Human Resources.

I hope that we resolve this quickly and amicably. I look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

George Stein.

Questions 6-8 refer to the following article.
Total web address registrations surged to 63 million in the spring of this year. Some 4.7 million addresses were created in the first quarter, a record. Though North America remained the area with the highest number of Internet users as a percentage of its population-at just over half-the recent availability of Arabic, Chinese, and Russian characters within domain names certainly contributed to this rapid increase. The “interconnected word “of the Internet that online visionaries espouse is slowly taking shape.

However, not all reports have been good. E-mail has made business-to-business communication more efficient and person-to-person correspondence faster and cheaper, yet spam and e-mail viruses also reached an all-time high. Spam-unwanted e-mail makes up three-quarters of all e-mail messages. Worse still, despite improvements in anti-virus software, the percentage of virus-infected e-mails remained at just over nine percent. For business, this is especially bad news, as they must purchase costly anti-virus software and take valuable time to delete the unwanted e-mails, which costs businesses an average of US$ 1,934 per year in lost production, double the amount of the previous year.

Although the Internet’s potential is great, the Internet industry should redouble its effort to reduce unwanted and unnecessary spam and reduce the serious threats posed by software and Internet viruses.
